Copan ruins and security in Honduras

Hello to all,
I’m going soon to Guatemala and was thinking on going through the border to visit the Copan ruins in Honduras. However, i was told that this is dangerous (kidnapping…). Has anyone been there lately ? How was it ? What would be your advice in terms of transportation ?

If you are basing youself in Antigua Guatemala ( a lot of tourists do) I believe you can get a Hedman Alas bus that goes direct to Copan without having to change buses at the border. Travel around Guatemala is a bit of pot luck really anyway. You will be unluncky to fall victim (don’t think they discrimate netween chicken buses or private vehicles). Its just a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. If you get stopped just give them your stuff with no fuss. Personally Tikal is more worthy of your time but if you are travelling through then its worth a look.
