On Jan 18 a collection of the world’s best in fashion will descend on an airport in Berlin, Germany. Don’t mistake ‘Bread and Butter’ as a culinary event. The international fashion fair is returning once again to its German roots where it launched in Cologne in 2001. Far more than a fashion show, ‘Bread and Butter’ lets in the public in to experience the clothing first-hand. Organizers’ decision to keep it in Berlin was backed by the desire to put the city and the country on the map as a fashion capital. Situated on the tarmac of Berlin’s abandoned Tempelhof Airport the winter version of the fair will run until Jan 20. Attracting tens of thousands of visitors each year since its inception, the fair has become a must for the fashion world and Europe’s biggest and best fashion event. Ordinary visitors with a love for fashion have the chance to rub shoulders with the some of the biggest industry professionals in fashion. Last year’s trade show saw more than 90,000 attendees and 600 brands on display.

For those wishing to make fashion part of a travel story, registrations for ‘Bread and Butter’ will be free until Jan 6. A fee of 50 € will be charged to register at the door. Although winter in Germany can be on the cold side, experiencing the country during the off-season will mean cheaper airline tickets. In the 20 years since the Wall fell Berlin has become one of the most culturally diverse and artistic cities in the world.
