Diseases transmitted by insects or animalsSeveral cases of tick-borne encephalitis have been identified in Lithuania, as in the rest of Central Europe (Austria and Southern Germany included). There are also cases of Lyme disease in rural areas. The former is an infection of central nervous system and may cause long-lasting or permanent neuropsychiatric relapses (10-20% of infected patients). The latter is an infection that includes a characteristic rash, fever, arthritis and may cause neurological manifestations such as facial palsy. Isolated cases of rabies have been reported over the last years. |
