Diseases transmitted by insects or animalsHungary has been hit by the avian flu epizootic. Several cases of tick-borne encephalitis have been identified in Hungary, as in the rest of Central Europe (Austria and Southern Germany included). There are also cases of Lyme disease in rural areas. The former is an infection of central nervous system and may cause long-lasting or permanent neuropsychiatric relapses (10-20% of infected patients). The latter is an infection that includes a characteristic rash, fever, arthritis and may cause neurological manifestations such as facial palsy. There are cases of animal rabies in the country, but they remain rare. |
