From April 15 – 17 the eyes of the racing world will be fixed on Shanghai, China. The annual Formula 1 tour is once again making a pit stop in the city known as the ‘pearl of Asia’ at one of the most talked about racing tracks on the planet, the Shanghai International Circuit. The 3.4 mile track is architecturally renowned. Eighteen miles from the city center, the race course is ultra modern, having been built for the millennia. But it is perhaps best known for its shape, that of the Chinese character “Shang,” which translates to “high” or “above,” symbolically making it the envy of Formula 1 Championship Series. And with 29,000 seats in the grand stand alone there will be plenty of room for race fanatics to catch their favorite teams roaring around the track at speeds only the top drivers in the world can handle. With the first race of the season officially in the books, drivers will next travel to Malaysia before making their way to Shanghai. So far Sebastian Vettel sits at number one after Melbourne, followed closely by Lewis Hamilton and Vitaly Petrov. Of course, with the 2011 season in its infancy anything can happen between now and race day.
