As the global publishing industry moves to digitize content to accommodate the demand for the tablet, readers’ increasingly preferred choice of delivery, the airline industry is following suit. No longer will passengers of Singapore Airlines be limited to only TV, movies, and radio for on-board entertainment. Beginning later this year the airline will introduce its e-magazines option. A first in commercial aviation, Singapore Airlines, one of the world’s top carriers, will offer magazines online during flights. The Economist, The Wall street Journal, and Elle will be among the 20 international titles to choose from. Travelers will be able to read the magazines on HD LCD TVs. The digital transition will eliminate on-board paper magazines, saving space while providing more to choose from. The digital move comes only months after the airline began in-flight news ticker services. The e-magazine service will be available on the company’s A380 and Boeing B777-300ER fleets with other models to be added in time. With web access hitting the skies, being connected has no bounds. The e-magazine is just the beginning. Soon the airline hopes to add newspapers and e-books, giving travelers more reasons to take-off.
E-magazines will help travelers pass the time
Long-haul flights can become tedious after many hours up in the air. But with e-magazines travelers will be able to keep up with their reading while taking their minds off the stale air and confined space. No need to buy a magazine before boarding. Just be sure to check that your route includes the new feature.
