Japan has had its fair share of negative news this year. But not all is bad in the Island nation, home to many incredible things to discover and enjoy, in addition to the beautiful fall colors. An event returning the country to more positive headlines will take place in Tokyo from Oct. 7 to the 16. Japan will welcome the world’s attention for the 43rd Artistic Gymnastics World Championships – a major lead-up competition to the 2012 Olympic Games in London. For 10 days the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium will house some of the world’s best gymnasts as they defy gravity and human strength performing events that very few could ever attempt. Eighty national federations will take part, making this truly international. The top eight teams and all individual gold, silver, and bronze medalists will be on their way to London. Even Cirque du Soleil will be in attendance at this year’s championships. Talent scouts from the famous company will be in the stands searching for future talent. Their presence will give the athletes career options after the Olympics, and an extra incentive to perform at their best.
Travelers should circle Autumn as the time to visit Japan
Reduced airfare, comfortable temperatures, and a major athletic event are just a few of the reasons to visit Japan this fall. Tickets for the Artistic Gymnastic World Championships are still available. But between competitions be sure to get out of the city to enjoy the best the season has to offer.
