Japan race to rebuild Japan : A faster recovery than we thought !

    Tokyo - Japan

In March, Japan has been living a real nightmare. Thousands of people have been killed in the tsunami followed by the earthquake, measuring an astounding 9.0 on the Richter Scale, tore through the northern portion of Japan and moved the entire country eight feet to the east, that has been exacerbated by a still raging nuclear catastrophe. Ever since the tragedy happened, we’ve seen horrific images of towns and villages being swept away which prove us the frailty of mankind's existence…

The cost of damage caused by the quake and tsunami is estimated by the World Bank at 240 billion dollar which represent about one year of the economies of Bangladesh and New Zealand but it will cost about 309 billion dollars to rebuild the country after this disaster. So far this devastation has been described as the country’s biggest crisis since the end of the Second World War.

It is really sad news, we all agree but Japan is not exactly an ordinary country and even if this horrible disaster just happened, the recovery has already begun. Japanese people has something that everyone can envy everywhere in the world and it has nothing to do with money, it is their resilience. No matter what happened, Japanese will never complain, they will fight to get through it and it’s probably their best strength. The Japanese population has a communal and consultative instinct and is completely devoted to the country. They will do everything they can possibly do to help. For example, around Tokyo, thousands of businesses have been voluntarily cutting back on electricity use to prevent power cuts. Lorry drivers have been working double time, often without pay, to get to the stricken north. Japanese just think first about the common good at the expense of their own comfort. They need to move forward, they understand the importance of rebuilding fast and as a consequence they are acting the best they can to do so. In this way they will show to the world how strong and independent they are …

Unlike Haiti, Japan is a wealthy, rich and sophisticated country but more than anything extremely well organized modern nation. Also traditional Japanese houses and buildings are mostly low cost and quick to build, as befits a country that has lived with earthquakes forever. It will give them the ability to rebuild the country quickly.

Even if the entire world is welling to help Japan to recover from this disaster, Japanese are really proud people and they will never ask for help, they want to be independent. They have a big sens of honor, that the reason why they asked help only to Japanese. Of course you can still give money to Japan Red Cross to help them.

After millennia of natural disasters, it’s a country with plenty of practice getting back on its feet quickly. They already proved it during the Kobe Earthquake in 1995. At the time, the country has taken the opportunity to increase the earthquake standards and the boom in public buildings and works sector had brought growth for several years.
