On Sunday, October 25th, two separate suicide bombings outside government offices in Bagdad killed at least 150 people and wounded hundreds. It is the deadliest terrorist attack in two years. According to Iraqi officials, al-Qaeda in Iraq and remnants of the Baathist party are responsible for the attack. The blasts occurred at 10:30 AM local time (0730 GMT) and targeted the ministry of justice and a provincial government office near Baghdad Green Zone.
Terrorist attacks remain extremely frequent in Iraq especially in Baghdad, Kirkuk and Mosul. Be aware that Baghdad Green Zone is one of the most closely guarded areas of the city.
Be aware that most western Embassies strongly urge their citizens against travel to Iraq. Conditions are extremely dangerous throughout the country. The risk of terrorism remains extremely high.
