On August 17th, a bomb blast near an Iraqi army recruiting centre in Baghdad killing at least 51. According to preliminary reports, more than 100 people were reported to have been injured in the bombing. The attack took place at around 7:30 am (0430 GMT) when a suicide bomber blew himself up while people were waiting at the recruiting centre.
This attack is the most deadly in Baghdad in weeks and follows an attack in the city of Basra on August 7th that left 60 people dead.
Security situation remains extremely precarious in Iraq. Terrorist attacks remain frequent. Be aware that most western Embassies strongly urge their citizens against travelling to Iraq.
