Chikungunya cases are numerous; in 2005, a major outbreak infected more than 35 percent of the local population. From January to October 2010, 153 cases were confirmed. Symptoms of this mosquito-borne disease include fever, headache, muscle and joint pain, nausea; in severe cases, the pain associated with the infection of the joints persists for weeks or months. |
