Diseases transmitted by insects or animals

The whole country is infected with malaria. Strains are not resistant to chloroquine (zone 1).

There is a small risk of leishmaniasis in coastal areas and foothills. There are two form of the disease, the cutaneous form which causes skin sores and the visceral form which affects internal organs. This disease is transmitted by infected sand flies.

There are cases of animal rabies in the country.
