Diseases transmitted by insects or animals

The H5N1 strain has been detected on poultry for the first time in Egypt in February 2006. Authorities have since then identified several local outbreaks all over the country. Egypt is one of the countries hardest hit by the avian influenza. A total of 157 human cases (55 deaths) have been reported in Egypt since 2006. In 2011, authorities have confirmed 38 cases (15 fatalities).

There are cases of animal rabies in the country.
